Community Libraries of Providence is proud to partner with Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS) to present three, free live in-person performances as part of the 26th Annual FUNDA FEST: A Celebration of Black Storytelling this January/February 2024.
Monday, January 30 at 6:30p.m., at South Providence Library, with V. Raffini
Wednesday, January 31 at 6:30p.m., at Knight Memorial Library, with Valerie Tutson
Thursday, February 1 at 6:30p.m. at Wanskuck Library, with Sylvia Ann Soares
All ages are welcomed to join us at Knight Memorial Library to hear stories from the one and only Valerie Tutson. Valerie has been telling stories in schools, churches, libraries, festivals and conferences since 1991. She draws her stories from around the world with an emphasis on African traditions. Her repertoire includes stories and songs she learned in her travels to South Africa, her experiences in West Africa, stories from African American history. In addition, she is gaining quite a reputation for her exciting retelling of age-old Bible stories.
Funda Fest 26 runs January 19 – February 3, 2024, and features over 25 performers. Performances take place all around Rhode Island, including the opening party in Providence, a Family Fun Day in Newport and Westerly the ever-popular Liars’ Contest in East Providence, and a concluding Black History Live + event at Southside Cultural Center of RI.
