Stories of Exile Fall 2023 (1500 × 1000 px) (1)

“Stories of Exile” Reading Groups for Public Libraries is a reading and discussion program to engage adults and teens in thinking about experiences of displacement, migration, and diaspora sponsored by the Yiddish Book Center and funded by a gift from Sharon Karmazin.

After two stimulating book discussions in May and June on The Glatstein Chronicles, by Jacob Glatstein, the series continues with In the Land of the Postscript, by Chava Rosenfarb, a discussion of the movie Enemies: A Love Story, based on the book by Isaac Bashevis Singer,  On the Landing, by Yenta Mash and The Namesake, a novel by Jumpa Lahiri which portrays a family of first and second generation Americans from India. All three books, as well as the movie, address issues of identity, assimilation, and remembering and forgetting the past.

The schedule is as follows:

October 3- In the Land of the Postscript

October 17- Discussion of Enemies: A Love Story (Please watch the movie at home.)

November 7- On the Landing

November 21- The Namesake

All discussions will be held in-person from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. For more information and to register email rocadults@clpvd.org  or call 401-272-3780 ex. 4404.
