CLPVD is seeking to hire Library Clerks C-2 to work at Rochambeau and South Providence. The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service skills and enjoy working with people of different diverse backgrounds and economic status.
Duties:
The Library Clerk-2 performs functions in the Circulation Department. This includes the following duties:
- Performs circulation procedures of checkout/check in of library materials.
- Answers questions from library users about their circulation record and can check on the status and location of titles.
- Handles questions and concerns from patrons and can explain library policies.
- Registers borrowers for library cards by entering information into the patron database and files applications; updates patron records as needed.
- Provides information to the public about events held at the library, library services, and community information.
- Refers persons requiring professional assistance to librarian.
- Shelve books and perform regular shelf reading of the library’s collection.
- Answers phones and directs calls.
- Processes overdue notices for mailing to library patrons.
- Handles money and processes simple fees through Square app.
- Retrieves library materials from shelf and processes them for delivery to requesting libraries.
- Unpacks and checks-in material returned from other libraries.
- Maintains work area in good order.
- Contributes to a welcoming and knowledgeable library staff and environment.
- May work in other libraries and departments if needed.
- Must be flexible to work at other CLPVD libraries if needed.Â
- The Rochambeau position position includes working evening and weekend hours. South Providence includes evening hours.
- Other duties that may be assigned.
Requirements:
High school graduate or GED. Library experience preferred. Excellent public service skills. Spanish speaking is preferred.
