Rochambeau Library – Community Room

Composting

Are you interested in composting? Join Stewart Martin of Providence Gardenworks for an information session about the free backyard composting mentorship program.

Each participant in the mentorship program will receive the necessary equipment as well as training and technical support, including:
  • installation of a heavy duty animal-proof composter customized for each home
  • an essential aerator tool for the composter
  • a stainless steel dishwasher safe food scrap pail with carbon filters
  • starter brown material/30 gallons of leaves
  • ongoing training and technical support on all aspects of home composting
  • lifetime warranty on all above equipment and service
The Mentorship Program is made possible by the City of Providence’s Sustainability Department and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Backyard Composting Mentorship Grant, aimed at increasing food scrap diversion in the city and in the process producing a powerful soil enhancer for vegetables and plants; compost!
The focus is recruiting 40 Providence residents to become backyard composters. At least half of the participants will be from economically disadvantaged areas. This is a completely free service.
