Introduction to Scientific Illustration
Join us for a free workshop to explore the overlap between art and science! You’ll learn the basics of illustration, explore the fascinating world of scientific illustration, and learn how to communicate biological concepts through visual art. Paper, pencils, and colored pencils are provided!
This program will happen on the second Saturday of every month from 10:30-12:00am from November 2024 to March 2025. The dates include 11/9, 12/14, 1/11, 2/8, & 3/8.
What to Expect:
  • Hands-On Activities: Learn about local wildlife from Audubon’s extensive collection of preserved specimens ranging from fur and molts to whole taxidermy and bones.
  • Concept Development: Learn how to translate scientific ideas into clear and engaging visuals.
  • Skill Building: Learn and practice illustration techniques like shading, form-building, and adding dimension and texture to create amazing pieces of art.

Autumn Jencks is a 2024-2025 Terracorps Service member working at The Audubon Society of Rhode Island as their Community Engagement Coordinator. For the past 5 years, she has been learning the techniques and applications of scientific illustration and has been incorporating what she has learned into her passion for environmental education.
