Black History Month Art Exhibit 2023 (1)

Join us for an interactive art exhibit and workshop series to celebrate Black History Month, led by educator Rachel Briggs! Children will have the opportunity to learn about lesser-known Black contributors to our history through storytelling and art.

About the series: “I noticed when I was teaching my children about history, I wasn’t spending enough time on the great contributions of individuals from African-American history. So I decided to use myself and them as a conduit to teach history. In doing so, I hoped that my children would feel proud of their ancestors, acknowledge their resilience, and adopt the grit that pushed them forward. These individuals are mostly unknown and have made major contributions to American society, from simple household items to major technological inventions that are still used in contemporary society.”

Rachel Briggs is a STEAM educator based in Providence. She is a mixture of city and country; rock and roll and hip hop. She is solar powered and loves all things summer related. Cookouts, gardening, camping and long walks. Besides science, Rachel is passionate about child welfare that including self-esteem and self empowerment. She is taking the term show and tell to another level. By using herself as conduit of history , she hopes dressing up will encourage and inspire children.
