Writing Close to Home: Four-Week Poetry Course

October 22 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Mt. Pleasant Library

poetry

In this 4-week poetry course for adults taught by Rosalynde Vas Dias, we’ll look at how poets manage the material that is closest to them.

Classes take place every Tuesday night, 6pm-7:30pm, October 1st – October 22nd at Mt. Pleasant Library. Please sign up only if you plan on attending all four classes. Register through Eventbrite to sign up for the entire course.

In this four-week poetry course, we’ll look at how poets manage the material that is closest to them: family, lovers, community, world. Looking at lyric and narrative poetry, we’ll talk about keeping focus tight, wrangling big emotion, and getting closer to what is sometimes too close for comfort. Come prepare to read and write (bring a notebook and your favorite pen!). This class is suitable for all levels of experience—but a curious nature and willingness to explore is required!

Rosalynde Vas Dias’s poetry has appeared in Crazyhorse, The Cincinnati Review, West Branch, The Pinch, Laurel Review, The Collagist, The Four Way Review, and elsewhere. Her first book, Only Blue Body, won the 2011 Robert Dana Award offered by Anhinga Press. In the fall of 2014, a selection of her linked poems, ‘Sweet Herald’, was a Campbell Corner Distinguished Entry.
