“Just sit up straight!”
How many of us have been told that ‘sitting up straight’ is the key to preventing back problems? What does sitting up straight mean to you? Have you been told to tuck your chin, or pull your shoulders back, or ‘engage your core?’ What do those things mean to you, and how do you feel when you do them? Is good posture important? What is it?
Holly Dobbs, certified AmSAT Alexander Technique Teacher,
bodymindconnect.org, will be leading an exploration of posture, and offering alternatives to the common advice of ‘just sit up straight.’
Holly discovered the Alexander Technique when she was experiencing chronic pain and burnout. Intensive training in the technique saved her beloved career as a massage therapist, and enabled her to share this unique method of self care.
The Alexander Technique is a proven educational method that teaches how to restore one’s fluidity, poise, coordination, body integration, and ease. This presentation will introduce the principles of the Alexander Technique in a participatory setting.
